REPORTS TO: Adult Education Coordinator
NOTE: This is a grant funded position.
DEFINITION: Under close supervision, assists Teachers with the delivery and education curriculum, and provides assistance to adult students for Somerton School District No. 11.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:
Assists Instructor with students in classroom settings; works with students in one-on-one or small group settings to facilitate learning; modifies lessons to accommodate student's needs such as English-Spanish translation, and individualized instruction, prepares class materials for upcoming projects and activities; aids Instructor in thematic units; utilizes District behavior modification program as needed.
Assists Instructor with students. Modifies or assists in modifying lesson plans to individual student needs; tests students; prepares documentation on student progress; organizes materials/activities to meet specific needs of each student; consults and collaborates with classroom Instructor on progress of students.
Assists Instructor with classroom duties by making copies, filing paperwork, working with students; monitors and supervises students in classroom, prepares instructional materials, making visual aids, and photocopying; prepares workstations or learning centers for students to work on daily lessons; and performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of learning methods and techniques related to second language learners.
Knowledge of special education or special needs accommodations.
Knowledge of District policies and procedures affecting assigned work.
Knowledge of District behavior modification program.
Skill in monitoring and assisting students.
Skill in working with special education and special needs students.

Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Work requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting. Some positions may require bending and lifting up to 25 pounds. May be exposed to infectious diseases.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED. 60 credit hours from an accredited college, Associates Degree or pass Paraprofessional Exam. One (1) year classroom assistance experience. Must be able to demonstrate fluency in both English and Spanish as a condition of employment. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License. Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP) required at the time of hiring.
