REPORTS TO: Food Service Director
DEFINITION: Under limited supervision, manages and oversees the daily operations and staff of assigned cafeteria for Somerton School District No. 11.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:
Oversees, supervises and participates in the preparation of food for school children. Plans menus and orders appropriate products and supplies. Determines meal count. Prepares meal plans in accordance with USDA standards regarding nutritional allowances. Monitors the cooking of food in quantities according to menu and number of students to be served. Enters production and meals served into computer for tracking purposes. Supervises, trains and monitors assigned staff. Checks inventory. Orders supplies. Keeps production records and accounts. Assists with food preparation as needed. Oversees the cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen area and utensils. Ensures kitchen equipment is in working order. Ensures proper methods are utilized in preparation of food. Performs related duties as assigned. Help in catering events as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
Knowledge of proper food handling techniques.
Knowledge of large quantity cooking methods.
Knowledge of USDA nutritional allowance information.
Knowledge of rules, regulations and guidelines of food handling.
Knowledge of basic safety and sanitation procedures.
Knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points
Knowledge of MS Office, MS Windows and related software.
Skill in preparing nutritionally appropriate meals.
Skill in calculating appropriate food quantities to minimize waste.
Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in an indoor environment. Work requires frequent standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to hot ovens, dangerous equipment, cleaning solutions and chemicals.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or equivalent, and three (3) years of food service experience, including one year or supervisory experience. Must possess a food handler certification. Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.
Depending on the needs of the District, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both English and Spanish as a condition of employment.
